Lake Bastrop is a power cooling reservoir. It emcompasses 906 acres and reaches a maximum depth of 60 feet. Bastrop is a structure-oriented lake. It is filled with underwater features like humps and creek channels. Additionally, the lake is full of grass, reeds and standing timber. In order to locate much of the structure, good electronics are a must. Once found, these types of structure attract quality bass year round.

The heat generated from the power plant lake has a significant effect on fishing during different seasons. The warmer water means fishing is best in winter and spring months. In fact, winter fishing at Bastrop is some of the best around because the warmer water keeps fish active. During the summer months the water temperature can become too warm, causing the fishing to slow considerably.
