  Lake Belton

Lake Belton was originally constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of engineers to control flooding within the Brazos River Basin. The lake has 110 miles of shoreline, covers over 12,000 acres and reaches a maximum depth of 124 feet. Most the Belton's shoreline is steep and rocky. There are a combination of tall bluffs and rocky points, and mud or sand flats. Both vegetations and timber are limited.

A popular lake for hybrid striped bass and largemouth bass, Belton is fished year round. Hybrids tend to travel in schools throughout the main lake and are often caught with jigs and crankbaits or bottom fishing with live bait. For largemouth bass, your best bet is to fish late February through April. As the temperature starts to rise the bass become more active and start to prepare for the spawn. You can find bass in creeks and coves because they are protected from the wind are the water is warmer. You can also find white bass, smallmouth and crappie in Lake Belton.
