Town Lake

Town lake is Austin's little bass fishing secret. The small lake is only 525 acres and the maximum depth is only 18 feet. But don't let that deter you. There are some big bass in Town Lake just waiting to be caught. Old rumors of contamination on Town Lake have kept pressure down and allowed the bass population to grow. Gas powered motors are not allowed on Town Lake. Many anglers use their electric trolling motors and kayak/canoe fishing is becoming more popular.

The banks of Town Lake are full of cover. There are fallen trees, low hanging trees, brush, roots, bulrush and cattails. You can also find submerged vegetation and weed beds, although these are mostly found at the lower end of the lake. Sight fishing during the spawn can be excellent on Town Lake because of the clear water.
